This is a new Selmer Ref 54 tenor in the antique brushed finish that I literally just bought and have to sacrifice for an expensive house repair.

  6. Hello. This play (4:00 to 5:16) inspired me to create a new song so I hope it does not matter that I put there.

  10. You’re a good player, man. Shame you had to give up the horn. Remember it’s just an empty piece of metal. The music’s inside of you.

  13. Redryno23, I tested a Reference 54 against my current sax (which is a SA-80 II). I found it to have a lot more life in the sound, more breathy. It was awesome.

Another one I took to test play was a Rampone & Cazzani R-1 Jazz. Its keywork was perhaps the most comfortable I’ve ever played, it fitted into my hands like gloves. And the tone, was as awesome as the Reference.

    Hope this helped you!

  18. I’m trying to decide between this and the Super Action 80 for my new horn (replacing an old Vito junker). Any other suggestions for a great horn?

  19. It’s a sad state of affairs that a player this good cannot get paying gigs to pay for the roof so he can keep his horn. Hope it all works out for you.

  20. That’s an AKG 414B XLS, THE most natural sounding mic for tenor. I recorded into Sonar 6 Producer edition, thanks.

  21. I would love to know what kind of sound recording equipment you are using. Love the video and hope all works out with the roof!

  23. mazedull you’re right P.Mauriat makes a great horn. I have never played the tenor, but I have played the alto and it sound great, everyone at the music store came over to check me out.

  24. If your getting your first pro horn I wouldn’t suggest getting the reference. It’s very hard to get that sound you want from it. I would suggest getting a Yamaha Custom Z. Very jazzy and awesome horn. You can get the same amazing sound but it’s much easier to achieve. It can make any Intermediate player sound awesome.
